Jeff Beer

To be honored with awards for both music and visual arts is rare. JEFF BEER (born in 1952 in Mitterteich, Germany) has performed internationally as an avantgarde composer and percussionist. In 1985 he was the recipient of Munich’s prestigious Bayerischer Staatspreis in each of these categories.

His love for drawing and painting developed during extended stays in Paris and New York. In his drawings and studies Beer searched for the three dimensional. The first breakthrough occured in 1984 while experimenting with sculpture in ceramic and wood. During walks through the remote areas of Germany he discovered found iron objects (parts of wheels, tools and machinery). Combining the skill of a welder and the spirit of a musician these rejected parts began to sing.

Beer’s work is reminiscent of the great sculptors who also worked with found objects (Gonzales, Miro, Picasso, Ernst) but Beer has a great strength and secure style of his own. This spirited artist has created works to touch the musical, poetic string in all of us.

Gallery Schlesinger-Boisanté (New York) is proud to present the sculpture of Jeff Beer for the first time in the United States.
